The Virginia Art Therapy Association is excited to begin spotlighting creative therapy offices in the state of Virginia that support the field of art therapy!
Our first spotlight for July is Alexandria Art Therapy.
Alexandria Art Therapy, LLC is a practice in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia offering art therapy and counseling services to adults and adolescents. We know that stressful experiences are made even more stressful when we can’t find the words to describe them. That’s why we use art therapy to help our clients release, rewrite, and heal stories from the past. The creative process lets clients transcend traditional talk therapy to get right to the heart of the matter and rediscover their own version of wellbeing.

What is the mission at Alexandria Art Therapy? Alexandria Art Therapy, LLC was founded with the mission to make art therapy accessible as a primary mode of mental health treatment. We value collaboration, creativity, connection, integrity, equality, and growth. We prioritize continuing education to practice empathically through a trauma-informed lens. We believe that access to mental healthcare is a human right.
What creative arts and counseling services do you offer your clients? We provide art therapy and counseling services to clients ages 6+. On our team, we have therapists who specialize in anxiety, depression, and mood disorders; trauma; PTSD; perinatal mental health; substance abuse and recovery; marriage and couples counseling; family counseling; counseling for blended families, single parents, and kids; and therapy for chronic illness, medical hospitalizations, and bereavement.
How do clients know what service is right for them? Clients can read more about each of our therapists and their specializations on our website. If a client isn’t sure where to start (or if art therapy is right for them), they can also email info@alexandriaarttherapy.com with any case-specific questions or needs.
What qualifications do your therapists have? All of our therapists are registered art therapists (ATR), and several are also board certified in art therapy (ATR-BC). Four of our clinicians are also licensed professional counselors (LPC), allowing us to provide art therapy services that are covered or reimbursable by insurance.
